Eurotrash in Buffalo | Spotlight on Elena V Designs

A true European woman, Elena Vasilevsky infuses a bit of old world decadence into her fashion collection. You know Ulyana Sergeenko? Vika Gazinskaya? Well, Elena V designs is part of that brand of fashion.

Her costume and theater designs gained her notoriety over the years but it wasn’t until she competed in The Coca Cola Company runway competition, where she won ‘Best Designer’, that she decided to start her own ready-to-wear line – that was only last year. Her background reveals a breadth of talents and cultural influence – she’s a classical concert pianist and curator of Russian-Ukrainian surrealist art – take that, Karl Lagerfeld. Her fashion line, which is at best in its nascence, has much promise as an intersection of all her interests.

After presenting her Spring 2013 collection at the Ukrainian Museum in New York City during NYFW, she closed the show a week later at Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo fashion week. That’s where I was first introduced to her. We hit it off immediately after discovering a mutual love for Ischia, an island just off the coast of Naples.

For Spring, I loved the full skirts and dresses that dominated the collection, they reminded me of a prairie girl in rural, eastern Europe. Her lines are definitely a strength, and she does the cut-out just fine. Elena dresses the sophisticated woman who prefers not to hide her sensuality. She’s a classical, European Czarina. And most definitely, eurotrash.

Here are some photos from her MBBFW show by Donald J Schwartz

LOVED this shirt dress. So sexy.
